Brightwater is a logbook and planner for freshwater aquarium keepers. You log water parameters in a few taps and see them against safe bands, keep maintenance on schedule with reminders, plan your lighting, follow the nitrogen cycle day by day when starting a tank, and keep a record of your livestock, diary notes, photos, and expenses — per tank. Everything you log stays on your iPhone: no account, no cloud, no ads.
Subscriptions are managed by Apple, not by us. Open iOS Settings → [your name] → Subscriptions → Brightwater and tap Cancel. You keep Brightwater Pro until the end of the period you already paid for. If you're on the free trial, cancel at least 24 hours before it ends or it converts to a paid subscription automatically. Refund requests also go through Apple — we cannot issue them.
Open Settings in the app and tap Restore purchases (it's also on the Brightwater Pro screen). Make sure you're signed in with the same Apple ID you purchased with, and that you have a working internet connection. If it still doesn't appear, email us with the date of purchase and we'll help.
Nothing is deleted — ever. Tanks beyond the first three become read-only, charts show the last 60 days, and some planning features lock, but everything you logged stays on your device and every tank can still be exported as CSV.
Go to Settings → Your data and tap the export button for any tank. Brightwater builds a CSV of that tank's readings, maintenance history, livestock, and expenses and hands it to the standard iOS share sheet — from there you can save it to Files, mail it to yourself, or open it in a spreadsheet app. Export is free on every plan, and the file isn't sent anywhere by us; where it goes is your choice.
Check that notifications are enabled for Brightwater in iOS Settings → Notifications → Brightwater, and that reminders are turned on inside Brightwater's Settings. Also check your quiet hours — a reminder that falls inside them is delivered after they end, by design. Reminders are local notifications scheduled on your device; toggling them off and on re-schedules everything.
No. Brightwater doesn't connect to any hardware — no lights, heaters, filters, or controllers. The lighting planner gives you a schedule and optional on/off reminders; switching things on and off is up to you (or your own timer hardware).
No. It's general hobbyist guidance with cited sources, not a promise about your tank. Every aquarium is different — test your water, watch your fish, and treat the app's safe ranges and timelines as guidelines. Where the evidence for a practice is anecdotal (like the siesta lighting break), the app says so plainly. See our Terms of Service.
On your iPhone, inside the app's own storage. Photos you attach to diary entries are copied into Brightwater's local storage and never uploaded anywhere. Deleting the app deletes them too, so export or save anything you want to keep first.
Delete individual entries inside the app, or delete the app itself. Everything Brightwater stores — tanks, readings, maintenance history, lighting plans, cycle progress, livestock, diary notes, photos, and expenses — lives only on your device, so removing the app removes all of it. Consider a CSV export first if you want to keep a copy.
No. Brightwater has no ads and no tracking.
